Excursion to Loutra Smokovo

We leave for the Excursion to Loutra Smokovo 7:30 from Omonia. We make an intermediate stop for coffee at the height of Lamia and continue to Loutra Smokovo. Arrival at Loutra, which is surrounded by a green valley, overgrown with oak and shady broad-leaved sycamores. The Hydrotherapy Center is one of the most modern. After breakfast we depart for the beautiful villages of Koziakas, one of the most picturesque mountain destinations of Pindos, ideal for nature lovers and lovers of authentic experiences. Our first stop is the Trikala Gate, the natural pass that connects the Thessalian plain with the mountains of Pindos. Here is the historical Bridge of Agios Bessarion, an impressive single arched stone bridge built the 1514, which bridges the Portaikos river. The historical "Battle of the Gate" was held in the area 1943, when the Greek Resistance pinned down strong Italian forces, which makes the spot an important monument of national heritage as well as a special tourist attraction. We continue towards the waterfalls of Paleokarya, in a ravine of unique natural beauty. There we meet two artificial waterfalls, with the eldest reaching the 12 meters and the smallest ta 2 meters high. They built it 1970 in order to stop the water and avoid flooding, creating today one of the most photographed spots in the area. Next destination Pertouli, in altitude 1.150 meters. The village retains its traditional stone architecture and is a popular destination for excursions all year round. We will have free time for coffee and a walk, enjoying the magnificent view of the mountains of Pindos. Then we visit Elati Trikala (old name Tyrna), the most cosmopolitan village of the mountain massif. Also known as "Switzerland of Greece", Elati stands out for its alpine landscape, the cool climate and the fir-covered forest that composes a scene of wild natural beauty. We will have free time to browse the picturesque alleys and optional lunch at a local tavern (individual expenses). After a day full of pictures, nature and authentic experiences in the villages of Koziakas, we take the way back to Athens, with an intermediate stop for rest.
