Θα δούμε το μνημείο πεσόντων και αγνοουμένων, θα πάμε στο πολιτιστικό κέντρο και θα ανεβούμε στην οροφή του κτηρίου όπου με κιάλια μπορούμε να δούμε την κατεχόμενη περιοχή και την πόλη της Αμμοχώστου. Δεν θα παραλείψουμε να περάσουμε από το Λαογραφικό μουσείο και το Μουσείο Λαϊκής Τέχνης. Συνεχίζουμε για τα Βαρώσια. Στη δεκαετία του ’70 η Αμμόχωστος και συγκεκριμένα τα Βαρώσια ήταν ο δημοφιλέστερος τουριστικός προορισμός της Κύπρου. Πλούσιοι και διάσημοι όπως Ρίτσαρντ Μπάρτον, η Ελίζαμπεθ Τέιλορ και η Μπριτζίτ Μπαρντό απολάμβαναν ξεκούραση και διασκέδαση σε μια από στις καλύτερες ακτές της Κύπρου. Κάποιοι μάλιστα συνέκριναν τα Βαρώσια με τη Γαλλική Ριβιέρα. Εκεί που κάποτε κατοικούσε η ανεμελιά, η ξεγνοιασιά και ο ήλιος, τώρα σιωπηλά κτίρια, άδειοι δρόμοι, οδοφράγματα και στρατιωτικές αρβύλες. Θα περιηγηθούμε στην παλιά πόλη της Famagusta (που στα Λατινικά σημαίνει πόλη χωμένη μέσα στην άμμο) καθώς και στην μοντέρνα πλευρά της πόλης. Η πρώτη αίσθηση που δημιουργεί η περιοχή, είναι πως τα πάντα έχουν μείνει στο ‘74. Ετοιμόρροπα κτίρια, βλάστηση που καλύπτει τα πάντα σβήνοντας τα όρια δρόμων & πεζοδρομίων, και που ξεπροβάλλει μέσα από κτίρια, είναι μερικά μόνο από τα στοιχεία τα οποία συνθέτουν το περιφραγμένο τμήμα της Αμμοχώστου αυτήν τη στιγμή. Στις καταστροφές που έχει προκαλέσει η τουρκική εισβολή και η οργανωμένη λεηλασία η οποία ακολούθησε, έχει προστεθεί και αυτή του χρόνου επιδεινώνοντας την κατάσταση. Συχνά, αυτό το κομμάτι της Αμμοχώστου περιγράφεται με τους όρους «πόλη φάντασμα» ή «νεκρή πόλη».
