🌲 Grevena – Kozani – Samarina – Lake Polyfytou | A unique escape in Western Macedonia
Get ready for a special trip to the enchanting Western Macedonia, where the imposing nature of Pindos meets history, tradition and picturesque villages! On a wonderful 3-day excursion from Athens, we will discover the historical Samarina at the foot of Smolika, we will get to know Siatista and the beautiful Grevena and we will tour the special Kozani.
Our route will also take us to the enchanting Deer Park, but also in Neraida Kozani, with the impressive view of Lake Polyfytou. Mountains, lakes, picturesque alleys, traditional villages and unique landscapes make up a journey full of images and beautiful moments.

Early morning departure from our Office and from Omonia, with intermediate stops for coffee on the way. We are expanding our course, climbing the 2nd largest mountain in Greece, the imposing Smolikas, whose mesmerizing geomorphology has been the source of myths and legends from every historical period, with the dragons of the peak, the Dragon Lake and the elves with the fairies lending a supernatural touch. Then we arrive at historic Samarina, which is at an altitude 1.500 measures and played an important role in the revolutionary struggle, as 120 men from the village gave their lives during the Exodus of Messolonghi. There we will have the opportunity to casually tour the area, exploring the alleys and the main square, surrounded by beeches, while we will have time to enjoy our meal at local restaurants (individual expenses), soaked in the alpine air that breathes the landscape. End, we will go to Ptolemaida, at the PANTELIDIS HOTEL 4*, for rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Also, Hotel Pantelidis is only five minutes away from the modern Tennis sports facilities of the local Tennis club.
📷 See the photos →After our breakfast, we will head to the slopes of Mt Muriki. At altitude 690 meters is the Kozani Trade, a place whose modern settlement developed around the fringes of an old Byzantine castle and is often called "Little Constantinople", as its architectural structure and the concentration of monuments render a micrograph of the city, transporting the visitor directly to the capital of the empire. The Galata Tower, the Church of Agia Sophia, the Church of Agios Minas, as well as the verdant natural environment, contribute to the creation of a medieval atmosphere. There will be free time for coffee at local restaurants (individual expenses), but also for a tour of the aforementioned monuments. Later, we will maximize our experience by visiting the enchanting Deer Park, a fenced forest area 80 acres of oak trees, full of domesticated fawns, which you can gently pet and feed.
The place has benches, gazebo, swings and tables, making it ideal for picnics.
Later, we will go to the beautiful lakeside village, the "Fairy of Kozani", the location of which is on a charming hill, offering a privileged view towards Lake Polyfytou. Before we reach the village, we will make a short stop at the artificial lake for photos. The area is made up of a multitude of myths and legends about fairies who live as protectors of the village, adding a fairytale feel to our experience. We will stay there for lunch. Later, we will return to Ptolemaida for a walk around the city and then transfer to the hotel for rest, dinner and overnight stay.
After we have our breakfast, we will leave the hotel bound for the stately town of Kozani, Shiatista, a settlement that boomed in the 18th century thanks to fur and winemaking. There we will have time for coffee and a tour, exploring the picturesque alleys and the aristocratic stone mansions.
Then, we will continue our journey towards the enchanting Grevena, officially recognized as "the city of mushrooms", as in the groves of Pindos that surround Grevena they grow above 2.500 types of mushrooms. We will sit for a tour in Emilianou Square, with the stone clock and mushroom sculptures, as well as for lunch in local taverns. End, after an exotic adventure, we will return to Athens with intermediate stops for rest, always by your side on every escape!
