Only recently has autonomous diving started to develop in Karpathos, as this activity was not allowed in the environmental marine park around Karpathos and Kasos. But after a change in legislation the 2006, divers are now able to explore fantastic reefs with rich marine life, the old shipwrecks and the underwater caves. The places to eat and drink in Karpathos are scattered all over the island. Most of the restaurants in Karpathos are located in the main tourist spots, such as the Wells, the Arkasa, Ammoopi, the White and the Transparent. Other restaurants and taverns are located in less touristy places, but they still offer authentic food and fantastic views of the countryside or the sea. The main nightlife spot of Karpathos with a few bars that stay open late is actually the beach road of the port of Pigadia.
