We are leaving for the One-Day Excursion Sacholi Eurostina 08.00 from Omonia, making a stopover for coffee. Then we will depart for the slopes of Mount Chelidorea, to visit Panagia Katafygiotissa. The Monastery dates from 1772 and was built by the inhabitants of the area who found refuge in the great persecution of the Turks. Then we continue to the green Eurostina with the running waters. Eurostina we will have time to tour the local area and have our lunch. After a full day we take the road back to our Athens with an intermediate stop for coffee.
What I need to know about a Derveni Eurostina One Day Excursion
Derveni was founded around 1860-1865, from residents of nearby Zacholi (today Eurostini) who left their village to move to the coast. There they engaged in the production and trade of currants, from which they became especially rich during the second half of the 19th century.
Eurostini or Zacholi was the capital of the old municipality of Eurostini and was the metropolis of Western Corinthia. It differs because of the legendary church of the seventeen domes and the Rema ton Mylon. Zacholi has a rich history, as it predates the year 1500. It has an altitude of seven hundred meters and is fourteen kilometers from Derveni and seventy kilometers from Corinth. Its agricultural production is rich. It produces cherries, apples, persimmons, plums, pears, tomatoes and, end, the famous and award-winning "Zakholitika beans". Zacholi has a great contribution to the nation's struggle during its Revolution 1821. He raised two great chieftains, Panagiotakis Geraris and Christos Zini or Zaholitis.
