We leave for the Excursion to Bansko and Sofia early in the morning from the center of Athens. After some intermediate stops for coffee and food, we arrive at the border for the prescribed control. Let's continue our route, for our hotel unit and the country's most famous high-altitude ski resort Bansko 900 meters. It is a mountain village with 9.000 residents who are overwhelmed by millions of visitors every year. In addition to the activities, you can enjoy your coffee at the Ski Resort, the bars in combination with the impressive view of the Ski Lift. Arrival at Balkan Jewel Resort 4* and arranging the rooms. In the evening we are free to enjoy the wonderful areas of the hotel and rejuvenate in the state-of-the-art spa center free of charge. After our breakfast, for those who do not follow the optional excursion to Sofia, a day of relaxation follows. Enjoy the hotel spa with free use of the indoor heated pool with jacuzzi, hammam and sauna. Those who wish can take a walk in Bansko combined with coffee, shopping or lunch. Alternatively, those who choose the Sofia excursion depart after breakfast for the capital of Bulgaria. In Sofia we will tour the former baths of the city where today the Museum of History is housed with exhibits from antiquity and the Middle Ages to the modern era. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral that we also meet is the most famous attraction in Sofia and one of the largest churches of the Orthodox Church in the whole world since inside it receives more than 5.000 people. Subsequently, we will visit the parliament, the Ivan Vazon National Theater to arrive at the most impressive and modern building in Sofia, the National Palace of Culture. Afterward, noon now, we will have plenty of time at our disposal to walk the wide pedestrianized Vitosha Avenue and main shopping street of Sofia length 2,7 kilometers full of shops, cafes and restaurants. Time for optional food and shopping and return to our hotel. Our evening free, dinner at the hotel and overnight stay.
Breakfast buffet and free day. Today we can relax and enjoy the hotel spa using the indoor heated pool with jacuzzi free of charge, the hammam and sauna but also to move for free and walk to Bansko to drink our coffee and have lunch. Alternatively, we can follow our optional excursion to the historical Plovdiv. The old town, it is a maze of cobbled streets among Roman ruins. Among the most important attractions are the Roman Amphitheater – a panoramic view is offered from the Bunardzika hill – the Cathedral of Panagia, the Tzoumagia Mosque in the homonymous square, the aqueduct, the Roman Forum, and the church of Saints Constantine and Helen. All these constitute the cultural and artistic pole of Bulgaria which we will see through our tour. Time for lunch and a walk and in the afternoon return to our hotel. Our evening free, dinner at the hotel and overnight stay.
we leave for our return to Athens making a first stop in Meleniko, a small town with a Byzantine air, just 32 km. from the Greek-Bulgarian border. The city is built in a deep ravine which created the place of exile for the unwanted nobles of the palace during the Byzantine period. Taking a short stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets, we will have the feeling of traveling back in time. The preserved Greek mansions of the early 20th century, of stone and wood with their characteristic loggias, they have been converted into small guesthouses and cozy taverns whose interior is reminiscent of Bavarian beer halls. We will have time to see the church of Agios Nikolaos, the ornate Ottoman command post, also known as "Konak" and the ruins of the Bamboora or Flamboora mansion (12the century), which today the locals call "Byzantine house". Continuing we will reach Sandanski with time for coffee. Here we can shop sports, clothing and more, at low prices but also to walk on the commercial pedestrian street of the city.
