Gathering for the Sicily Excursion at the airport for the Italy Summer Excursion 2023 and flight to the "eternal" city of Rome. Upon arrival ,the tour of the "Eternal City" begins. We will visit the Colosseum, the largest surviving ancient Roman amphitheater in the world, and the Arch of Constantine the Great. Passing through the Imperial Market Street in the heart of ancient Rome, we will reach Capitol Hill and Piazza Venezia with the massive monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of united Italy, in which the monument of the Unknown Soldier is also located, to the famous Trevi Fountain and finally to the bustling Piazza di Spagna. Subsequently, we will be transferred to the magnificent St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world, built over the tomb of the Apostle Peter, where, among others, we will see the Pieta of Michelangelo and the ciborium that dominates the papal altar, work of Bernini. Transfer and check-in at the hotel. Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will visit the independent state of the Vatican, to take a tour of its famous museums, with exhibits including famous statues from the ancient world and the Renaissance, such as the Laocoon complex, Apollo of Belvedere, works of Giotto, Rafael, Da Vinci, Caravaggio et al. Passing through the famous Corridors of the Candlemas, of the Tapestry, of Geographical Maps and the Halls with Raphael's frescoes, we will end up at the Sistine Chapel with the legendary ceiling painted by Michelangelo. Rest of the day free to take advantage of as you wish. Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel . Boarding the bus and departure to visit medieval Siena. Eleven streets lead to the beautiful central square, Piazza del Campo, where Siena's medieval Town Hall dominates. On our tour of the picturesque cobbled streets of the city, we will admire the medieval mansions, the churches and the Cathedral, dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin, which is considered one of the most important works of art in all of Italy. Departure for Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, a city that has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Transfer to our hotel. Tidying up the rooms. Rest of the day free in the wonderful city. Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel. On our tour we will see Piazza San Giovanni with the Baptistry of St. John and the Renaissance Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore, with Brunelleschi's famous dome. Continuing on, we will go down to Piazza de la Signoria, adorning the Neptune fountain and a replica of Michelangelo's David statue. This is where the Palazzo Vecchio is located, which today houses the City Hall of the city, and the Loggia with statues of great Florentine sculptors. We continue to the famous Uffizi Gallery, the famous and much-photographed Ponte Vecchio bridge with countless jewelry shops, and Republic Square, one of the most central squares of Florence, with the characteristic Arcone arch and the historic Gilli and Paszkowski cafes. Free time for shopping in the San Lorenzo market or visiting Palazzo Pitti, the luxurious residence of the Medici. Late afternoon return to our hotel . Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for romantic Verona, the city of Shakespeare's eternal lovers, on the banks of the river Adige. In the central Bra Square we will see the famous Roman Arena, and we will continue to the beautiful piazzas del Erbe and dei Signori, surrounded by excellently preserved medieval buildings, and of course for the "Mansion of the Capulets" with the legendary Juliet's balcony. Free time and late afternoon transfer to our hotel in Mestre, Venice. Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the most romantic city in the world, built on 118 small islands, which join with 410 about bridges, and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. From Trongeto, we will take the vaporetto, own expenses and we will end up in the Kastello area, where the orthodox church of Agios Georgios of the Greeks and the Byzantine Institute are located. Passing picturesque bridges and narrow alleys, we will see the imposing Doge's Palace, a phantasmagoria of pink and white marble in the Venetian-Gothic style, and we will end up in Saint Mark's Square, "the most beautiful living room in Europe", as Napoleon characterized it. This is where the famous St. Mark's Cathedral is located, masterpiece of Byzantine architecture, with impressive mosaics, its bell tower (Bell ringer), the Clock Tower, the Marcian Library and the famous Carrer Museum. End, we will visit one of the few Murano manufacturing workshops. Free time until transfer to Venice airport for our return flight to Athens.
