Meeting at the airport for the Easter Sicily Syracuse and Palermo Tour and flight to Palermo, the capital of Sicily. Boarding the coach and departure for the seaside town of Cefalu. The Greeks called her Kefalos, for they considered that the shape of the imposing rock that stands directly above the city, The fortress, it looks like a head. We will visit the imposing Cathedral at the highest point of the city with its famous 12th century Byzantine mosaics, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and dominates the city's medieval cityscape. Cefalu is a popular tourist destination in the summer months, with its beach front with crystal clear waters embracing the whole city and the waves of the sea literally showering the houses of the old town. The award-winning film Cinema Paradiso was filmed here. Arrival at our hotel in Catania, settling in our rooms and overnight stay.
Breakfast at our hotel and departure for the archaeological park of Syracuse. We will walk among the most important ruins of the ancient Greek and Roman city of Syracuse with a history of thousands of years. In the archaeological site, the terrible quarries dominate, where the Athenians met a horrible death during the failed Sicilian campaign (415 – 413 e.g.). Among the most impressive spots is undoubtedly the "Ear of Dionysus", a natural cave in the limestone rock. It is said that the tyrant of Syracuse Dionysius used the excellent acoustics of this cave to eavesdrop on the conversations of his prisoners and enemies. The "Ear of Dionysus" was the setting for the fifth Indiana Jones film. In cosmopolitan Ortygia we will see the beautiful Piazza Duomo with the imposing Cathedral integrated into the ancient temple of the goddess Athena, the temple of Apollo and the open-air market of the city. Walking through the narrow streets of Ortygia, we have the feeling that Monica Bellucci will emerge from some corner with her haughty gait, since the well-known movie "Malena" was shot here. Free time for lunch and to try authentic Sicilian flavors, like caponata, the famous Sicilian sweet and sour eggplant sauce, arancini with rice and cannoli with ricotta, drinking Sicilian beer or wine. Only Sicilians have the uncanny ability to transform a dish with poor ingredients from cucina povera into a baroque creation. Return to Catania and our afternoon walking tour of the old town along Via Etnea, we will see the Duomo square with the Cathedral and the statue of Liotru, (symbol of the city), the roman amphitheatre, the Opera building, the University and the Biscari Palace. Free time and overnight stay.
Breakfast at our hotel and departure for the largest and highest active volcano in Europe, Etna. We will visit the famous Parco dell'Etna, which is dominated by the largest active volcano in Europe and we will see large and small craters up close, active or inactive. On our way we will meet a series of beautiful villages with traditional architecture where, defying the danger from the volcano's eruptions, the inhabitants cultivate the well-known red wine "Etna Rosso" with the special aromas due to the fertile volcanic soil. Visiting an active volcano is something we will never forget. Then we will depart for Taormina, the cosmopolitan side of Sicily and, maybe, her most beautiful city. Really, nothing can prepare us for the Hollywood setting that awaits us in this corner of Sicily, which can be compared in splendor only to Capri and Monaco. It is no coincidence that it is the favorite destination of the international jet set, so don't be surprised if famous people from all over the world are having an aperitivo next to us. Undoubtedly, the most important attraction is the ancient Greek theater (Greek theatre), overlooking the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, which is preserved in excellent condition. The main street of Taormina is called Corso Umberto and it is one of the most expensive streets in Italy. We must not leave Taormina without trying its specialty, το came alla mándorla, i.e. almond wine, which is served very cold. Our next stop is Messina. The Norman Cathedral of the 12th century, which was rebuilt after its devastating earthquake 1908, it is the most popular attraction of the city along with the largest mechanical clock in the world (Messina Cathedral Astronomical Clock). Messina has one of the most beautiful harbors in Italy, in which the Madonnina dello Stretto dominates and blesses it, the Virgin Mary of the Port of Messina. Free time for shopping and lunch. In Messina we have the opportunity to try Sicilian cuisine at its best and at particularly affordable prices. Seafood dominates and we will find excellent restaurants by the sea, frequented by local sailors, the students of the city University, but also a colorful and bustling crowd of travelers that composes the human geography of Sicily. Arrival at our hotel in Santa Flavia (from the Palermo side). Accommodation and overnight stay.

We will walk through the historic center of the city and admire an impressive fountain, the Fontana Pretoria, which is surrounded by life-size nude statues made in 16th-century Florence. The interior of the church is decorated with Byzantine mosaics of incomparable beauty created by Byzantine craftsmen. also, we will see the Royal Palace of Palermo, the most important attraction of the city, which today houses the regional government of Sicily. Breakfast at our hotel and departure for Montreal, just a few kilometers away from Palermo, in a strategic location with full control of the sea lanes. The Norman kings chose it as a place of residence and built their palaces here, giving it the name Mons Regalis, i.e. "Mountain of the Kings".
