Departure for the Romania and Bucharest Excursion early in the morning from Athens. Making some intermediate stops and passing outside Thessaloniki we arrive at the border station of Promachona. After the necessary control we head to the capital of Bulgaria ,the historical city of Sofia. Check in at the hotel and free time to get to know the city for the first time with the wonderful Vitosha pedestrian street and the luxurious shops and restaurants. Dinner and overnight stay.
After our breakfast, we will tour the city and see Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the National Theatre, the University, the unquenchable flame of the unknown soldier, the basilica of Agia Sophia, the Russian Church of Saint Nicholas and the Rotunda of Saint George. Departure for the city of Pleven, which became famous for the eponymous battle of the Russian-Turkish war and is faithfully represented in the unique Panorama of Pleven. Created after the Panorama of Borodino in Russia on the occasion of the centenary of the Siege of Plevna, it is considered an emblem of the city. Inside we are in an exhibition of paintings, sculptural and real objects and then one of the fierce battles for the liberation of Bulgaria comes to life before your eyes. We continue to the Bulgarian-Romanian border through the cities of Pleven – Rousey. The natural border of the two states is the Danube river, which we will enjoy crossing the unique bridge that connects the two states, friendship bridge, towards the Romanian border of Giurcău. We will arrive in Bucharest, the "Paris of the East" settling in our hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
After our breakfast we will tour the city of Bucharest, built on the banks of the Dimbovita River, it is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. In today's tour we will see, among other things, the Village Museum, as well as the PalatulParlamentului ex “House of the People” and now of Parliament, built by Ceausescu which is the second largest public building in the world, after the US Pentagon. We will also see the Athenaeum, the most famous music venue in the country, the Arc de Triomphe, inspired by the counterpart in Paris, the Orthodox Patriarchate, the Greek Church of the Evangelism, the Fire Tower/Firefighter Museum and the Military Academy. Free time. We recommend you to visit the old Lipskani district known for its rich and colorful market. Don't miss the oldest beer hall in town, the CarucuBere, with the wonderful setting reminiscent of a Gothic church with the rich variety of beers. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
After our breakfast we will make an excursion to the beautiful Sinaia. The city is also called the "Diamond of the Carpathians" as it was once one of the favorite destinations of the Romanian high society. It got its name from the Siniaea Monastery. We will visit the historic Monastery of Sinaia, work of the Katakouzins. We continue through a wonderful route through fir trees to the Carpathians and Bran Fortress, also known as "Dracula's Tower" because of the horror story of the same name and the outdoor shops next to it to buy souvenirs about the famous legend. Then we will visit the medieval city of Brasov, which is considered to be the most beautiful city in today's Romania. Over the centuries, Hungarians had settled in the city, Romanians, Slavs and Germans, making her, the most cosmopolitan city of the Balkans. We will admire the Black Church, the largest Gothic church in Romania, and drink our coffee in the central square with the old Town Hall building, which bears the city emblem on its facade. Return to our hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast and free time for our last shopping in Bucharest. Crossing the border and with intermediate stops we will reach Sofia or Bansko. Check in at our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast we leave Serbia bound for the border station of Evzones. Check travel documents and continue our return journey with the necessary stopovers for coffee and food to arrive late in the evening in Athens – Piraeus.
