October 28 trip to Naples – Amalfi – Positano – Pompeii
Athanasiadis travel offers you a unique experience on the Amalfi Coast, a lacy strip of land in length 70 kilometers, located on the southern side of the Sorrento peninsula, between Naples and Salerno. It is one of the most picturesque parts of the Italian coastline, with the serpentine road of Stada Stratale carved into the vertical rock 163 to run through it, offering a magnificent view of the deep blue of the Tyrrhenian sea and the dark green of the Lattari mountains. Vineyards, citrus groves, olive and chestnut forests, beautiful villages perched on the hillsides, picturesque fishing villages and cosmopolitan towns, hidden shores and crowded beaches, they create the setting of one of the most beautiful and impressive coastal zones in Europe, which has been captured in dozens of films and books and which from 1997 is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gathering at the airport El. Venizelos and flight to Naples. Upon our arrival we start for Naples, the capital of the Italian South, located in the shadow of Vesuvius. We will see the Neo-Gothic Cathedral, Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which is dedicated to the patron saint San Gennaro and the famous complex of Santa Chiara, with the unique hand-painted tiles of the 18th century, with primary colors blue and yellow, representing landscapes of Campania. We will walk the impressive length of Via Toledo, which was opened 1536 by the regent Don Pedro of Toledo and remains to this day the main commercial artery of Naples. At the southern end of Via Toledo we will meet the majestic central square Piazza del Plebiscito and pass through the impressive 19th century Galleria Umberto I, which is identical to that of Milan. Teatro San Carlo awaits us, one of the oldest lyric theaters in the world, famous for its amazing architecture and excellent performances and the Piazza Plebiscito theater square, with facade 169 meters with the majestic Palazzo Reale palaces. Then transfer to the historic House of Bourbon city of Caserta. Check-in at our hotel in the historic center of the city and stay overnight.
Breakfast at our hotel and departure for Capri. We will board the boat from Molo Beverello, below the impressive Castel Nuovo and in one hour we will be in Capri, the island of Dolce Vita. Marina Grande is waiting for us, the small and picturesque port, full of colorful fishing boats, souvenir shops and bustling seafood restaurants. We will visit the central square Piazza Umberto I or Piazzetta, as the locals call her, where Audrey Hepburn used to court, Kirk Douglas, George Clooney, Jackie O, Liz Taylor et al.. We will drink our coffee in the shadow of the Clock Tower, between the Cathedral of St. Stefanos of the 17th century. and the City Hall. We will walk on Via Camerelle, with the shops of famous fashion designers and the Carthusia Perfumery, which operates from 1948. We will go down Via Tragara, with the luxury hotels and we will reach one of the points with the most stunning view on the island, the famous Faraglioni Rocks, the two impressive pyramidal rocks that form the natural setting for the advertisements of all Dolce House fragrances & Gabbana. In the afternoon return to Caserta. Transfer to our hotel, overnight.
Breakfast at our hotel and departure for a cruise to Positano and Amalfi, the cosmopolitan resorts of the Costiera Amalfitana. On a breathtaking route, beneath settlements hung on the cliffs like eagles' nests, we snaking our way through inky laces of the coastline, entering Positano, built on the steep side of a cliff. We will be fascinated by the amphitheater architecture of Positano with its colorful houses and winding streets. We will walk on Via della Tartana, characterized by white buildings, beautiful boutique hotels, elegant restaurants, trattorias and shops of the big brand names of Europe. Amalfi awaits us, which hosts the famous stars of the international jet set on their holidays. We will admire the Duomo, the Renaissance temple and we will take a photo on its steps. We will walk through its narrow streets and taste limoncello, the famous drink of the region. Return to our hotel and stay overnight
Breakfast and departure for Pompeii, at the foot of Vesuvius. We will walk along the cobbled streets of the Roman era and admire the buildings that have been preserved, after they were covered by the lava of the eruption of the volcano 79 A.D. All the rich mansions with their numerous frescoes were saved, the market, the temples, the theaters of the city, the arches, the fountains, the shops and private houses. This place, which is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, it still shocks and fascinates millions of people every year. Departure and visit to Sorrento, the city of lemons which offers a unique view towards Vesuvius and Naples. Free time in the city. We suggest a walk in the central square, την Piazza Tasso, in which you will really feel like Italians. Return to our hotel in Caserta and overnight.
Breakfast at our hotel and today we will visit the Palace of Caserta. The Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale) of Caserta, it is the largest in the world and is considered the "swan song of baroque architecture". The city of Caserta is famous for its squares, its parks and temples, but also the Vanvitelli Aqueduct, is one of the main attractions of the city. Then we will depart for the "Eternal City" the beautiful Rome. We will start our tour in the capital of Italy, where first stop of our visit, it will be the landmark of the city, the famous Colosseum, which is also the largest surviving amphitheater of the Roman period and then we will walk along the Roman market [Via dei Fori Imperiali]. Subsequently, we will admire Piazza Venezia and the national monument of Italy which is dedicated to the first king of Italy [Victorian]. We will walk along Via del Corso, of Rome's most commercial street. Our next stop will be Fontana di Trevi, the fountain which is the most famous fountain in Rome. We continue our walk with our visit to the Pantheon, the oldest temple of the city and finally we will end up in the famous Piazza Navona, which is one of the largest and most famous squares of the city. Free time for a first acquaintance with the city. Then transfer and check-in at our hotel. Overnight.
A whole day dedicated to the Eternal City. After breakfast we start our second tour from Piazza del Popolo, with the twin churches and literary cafes on either side of the square. From there we will continue walking along Via del Corso, of Rome's most commercial street. One and a half kilometers full of shops, coffee and a bustling crowd that lives with passion and Italian finesse, like a reel from an old movie. Then we will reach the bustling Piazza di Spagna and walk down Via dei Condotti, where the famous Antico Caffe Greco is located, with over 250 years of history. Scenes of the Hollywood film "Rome Holiday" with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck were shot here (1953) and here drank coffee celebrities of letters and arts from all over the world, from Goethe and Stendhal to Ibsen. Via dei Condotti is home to all the famous names in haute couture, like Prada, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Ferragamo, Versace, Fendi, Trussardi and others. Free time for coffee, ice cream and lots of photos in the beautiful Italian Capital. Transfer to the airport from where we will take the return flight to Athens.
