On the easternmost side of Greece you will find Kastellorizo, one of the smallest but also the most beautiful islands of the Dodecanese complex. Also known as Megisti in ancient times, the island has a long history dating back to the early Neolithic era. Its ancient name lasted until the Middle Ages, when the knights of St. John built the Castello Rosso on the reddish rock above the harbor. The name of the island was given because of the castle with its high double walls and ramparts.
Its economic development began at the end of the 19th century thanks to fishing and shipping. The beautiful stately homes along the coast of Kordoni are reminiscent of those prosperous days.
The first glimpse of the colorful mansions built on the hillside next to the sea is what you will see when you arrive at the port. His mosque 1755 with the minaret and the red dome houses the Historical Collection of Kastellorizos which presents documents, relics and images from the history of the island
